Design Project Management

Current Year Roadmapping Areas, Fall 2009

During Fall 2009, the Design Project Management students will focus on developing several groups of closely related projects, to established a set based concurrent engineering approach to product development. DPM students will work in groups on these roadmap development projects.

Please note that these assignments in DPM Do Not Require you to continue with the same projects during MSD I and MSD II. In the past, many DPM students choose to continue working on the same projects in MSD I and MSD II that they worked on in DPM. However, several students each year move to other projects for MSD I and MSD II for any number of reasons. The project assignments in DPM simply indicate the subject matter for which you will be conducting your homework duties for the DPM quarter.

A Set Based Roadmap ...

Open Source / Open Architecture Assistive Devices

Your objective for Fall Quarter, 2009-1, in DPM is to develop two project plans. Each of these two project plans should serve as the problem statement for at least two and up to three distinct project teams, tackling the same project. Based on an analysis of past work that has been completed in multi-disciplinary senior design at RIT, and roadmapping recommendations that have been completed by previous DPM groups, your job is now to develop a tactical plan for providing enabling technologies in support of rapid advances in assistive device technology.

Prior Year Roadmapping from the Masters in Product Development

During Fall 2008, the Masters in Product Development students will focus on developing a comprehensive roadmap for wireless technology development in the multi-disciplinary senior design course.

R09300 - Open Architecture, Open Source Wireless Communications - Sponsored by Harris (RF). Roadmap will be developed through MPD program. -- 12 MPD students.

Example of a Prior Roadmap Concept

R09200 - Open Source, Open Architecture Modular Scalable Robotic Vehicle Platform Family The family roadmap is intended to show how past, present, and future MSD projects fit together to tackle a problem significantly larger in scope than any single project could accomplish by itself. Each roadmap will present a historical perspective on past work that has been accomplished within the MSD program, if any, and set directions for the next stages in product development and innovation.

Typical Family Roadmap

The roadmap below is an example, and each group will be creating a roadmap like this for their team. Your roadmap will include design objectives and outcomes for each team project, and specify the interfaces between team projects.
