Jet Engine Concept Development

Jet Engine (Before)                          Modified Jet Engine

A turbojet engine was constructed for an independent study project by Brent Vesa with the advisement of Professor Wellin during the last academic year. The engine had previously not been in use because it needed modifications in order to be safely operable for laboratory experiments. Several modifications have been made to significantly minimize the possibility of risks. The prevention of combustion due to excess propane coming in contact with electrical components was one modification of great importance. In addition to the replacement of hazardous parts being another major safety improvement, it also improved the stability and robustness of the engine operation. In order to make the engine suitable for laboratory experiments, the engine has had to be rebuilt and several sensors installed.  For the purpose of future laboratory experiments temperature, pressure, and rpm measurements will be made.
