Custom Design PlaneWhile flying with a mock 3lb payload the ailerons stopped responding resulting in a dive to the ground. The crash resulted in a crushed litium-ion battery pack, the motor sheared off the mounts, and crushed the nose cone. The plane was later rebuilt and continued to be used for test flights.
This crash was the end of the Telemaster; no repairs could be performed. Foward movment of landing gear increasing takeoff speed, AP50 lag, and pilot error caused the plane to make sudden turn and hit an RIT sign during Brickcity Weekend 2006.
This crash occurred during week 8 of Senior Design II, and therefore was the final attempt at achieving autonomous flight. The AP50 crashed during flight and therefore control of the plane could not be regained, the plane flew over Jefferson Road and crashed into the swamps.
