Concept Revision and Design Review
Based on the issues discussed following the initial concept generation, the team chose to break the product into two components, rather than having one unit complete two processing steps. By separating the product into a peeling unit and a grating unit, many of these issues could be addressed.
- Two separate units rather than one all-inclusive product simplifies manufacturing, reduces necessary maintenance and eases repairs.
- Radial grating disc is replaced with a grating cone
- The skin is automatically separated from the flesh as it is peeled. Skin falls off to the side of the peeler while the cassava continues to be driven forward and peeled.
- Final product/mass-produced parts would be cast iron coated with a food-safe enamel. The grating cone is contructed of a high-carbon steel which resists corrosion and wear.
