Preliminary Work Breakdown Structure

In addition to the roles and tasks outlined below, each team should identify a person responsible for:

Three Week Project Plan
Person Week 0->1 Tasks

Team: Meet with customer to refine needs, ask questions, and observe current device. Begin benchmarking similar products. Assign team member roles and review this 3-week project plan. Attend class and meet with Guide.

Week 1->2 Tasks

Team: Finalize customer needs and begin creating design specifications. Discuss results of week 1 benchmarking. Begin developing preliminary design concepts. Attend class and meet with Guide.

Week 2->3 Tasks

Team: Review needs and specifications with customer. Begin formalizing design concepts, including research into how each could be implemented. Lay out plan for remainder of SDI. Attend class and meet with Guide.

James Nardo Begin benchmarking existing solutions for similar systems, with focus on published technical literature. Research or measure typical wheel and pedal speeds on traditional and stationary bicycles. Continue background research, with focus on stability/instability, including tilt test on stationary bike; revise associated needs; create associated specifications. Work with PT and ISE1 on establishing safe/desired range of tilt, as well as patient interaction with device. Document results to share with rest of team.
Jeffrey Tempest Begin benchmarking existing solutions for similar systems, with focus on patents. Continue background research, with focus on tilt and stationary bicycle interface; revise associated needs; create associated specifications. Work with ME3 and EE on method for controlling degree of tilt. Work with ME3 on interface with existing bicycle. Document results to share with rest of team.
Carl Mangelsdorf Begin benchmarking existing solutions for similar systems, with focus on patents. Continue background research, with focus on tilt and stationary bicycle interface; revise associated needs; create associated specifications. Work with ME2 and EE on method for controlling degree of tilt. Work with ME2 on interface with existing bicycle. Document results to share with rest of team.

ISE Student 2 Become familiar with EDGE website maintenance. Begin benchmarking existing solutions for similar systems, with focus on commercial products. Compile findings of all benchmark studies to date, summarize and highlight relevant findings to share with team and customer. Work with PT and EE on ideas for PT and patient interface. Document results to share with rest of team. Begin working on test plan ideas as specs evolve.
Jonathan Bawas Begin benchmarking existing solutions for similar systems, with focus on commercial products. Continue product benchmarking, with a focus on methods for controlling, sensing and displaying tilt information; revise associated needs; create associated specifications. Work with ME2 and ME3 on methods for controlling degree of tilt. Work with ISE2 on design ideas for user interface. Document results to share with rest of team.
