Preliminary Work Breakdown Structure

Three Week Project Plan

IE: Lead/Ergonomics Introduce the team to the project, provide a tutorial on how to use edge website, determine way to document all data/material for the project. Conduct benchmarking activity including product teardown session and competitive benchmarking. Begin assessing where each team member would contribute most. Determine a concurrent time for the team to visit the customer and obtain the necessary measurements/data. Conduct follow up to week 1, document all team's questions/recommendations and provide answers if possible. Delegate positions and hand out week 1 assignments. Emphasize key product specs, begin developing ergonomic constraints. Document team findings, research the proposals and try to narrow down possibilities. Work with ME's and ID to design around the key customer needs. Work with programmer in optimizing the GUI.
ME: Design/Fabrication Become acquainted with the project and the overall objectives, learn how to navigate through the edge website. Look at P07001 and the documents pertaining to the Mechanical Engineers and record/print any data that stands out. Participate in benchmarking activity, develop three ideas AND three questions pertaining to the project and record, ALSO research whether or not we want to buy a platform (tablet touchscreen pc) or build from scratch Bring for discussion the following week. Research material to be used for the custom enclosure, obtain a list of at least three materials. Develop enclosure proposals and brainstorm ways to fabricate. Write down approximate costs associated with each option. Research wheel chair mounts, brainstorm and develop three tray mounting proposals(gather approximate costs) to securely mount product to user's tray without inhibiting lifestyle
ME: Materials/Mechanical design Become acquainted with the project and the overall objectives, learn how to navigate through the edge website. Look at P07001 and the documents pertaining to the Mechanical Engineers and record/print any data that stands out. Participate in benchmarking activity, develop three ideas AND three questions pertaining to the project and write down,ALSO research whether or not we want to buy a platform (tablet touchscreen pc) or build from scratch. Bring for discussion the following week. Research material to be used for the custom enclosure, obtain a list of at least three materials. Develop enclosure proposals and brainstorm ways to fabricate. Write down approximate costs associated with each option. Work with EE's on breakdown of hardware that needs to be mounted. From the list of hardware develop three interior fixture proposals and conduct a preliminary heat transfer analysis.
EE: Embedded Hardware Become acquainted with the project and the overall objectives, learn how to navigate through the edge website. Look at P07001 and the documents pertaining to the Electrical Engineers and record/print any data that stands out. Participate in benchmarking activity, develop three ideas AND three questions pertaining to the project and write down,ALSO research whether or not we want to buy a platform (tablet touchscreen pc) or build from scratch. Bring for discussion the following week. Develop the list of hardware which will be required to assemble/run the product, determine which parts can be used from P07001 and what will need to be purchased. Develop ideas for the input/output circuit design. Research sources of mobile power and ways to re-charge, focus on maximum continuous life, write down recommendations and associated costs. Obtain an estimate of the power required to run the system, analyze the DC-DC converter/regulator of the product.
CE: Programmins Hardware/OS Become acquainted with the project and the overall objectives, learn how to navigate through the edge website. Look at P07001 and the documents pertaining to the programming of the product and record/print any data that stands out. Participate in benchmarking activity, develop three ideas AND three questions pertaining to the project and write down,ALSO research whether or not we want to buy a platform (tablet touchscreen pc) or build from scratch. Bring for discussion the following week. Examine last year's GUI (preferred by the customer), determine minimum system requirements required to run it efficiently. Research possible oeprating systems that can be implemented to run the product, FINALIZE by week 3. With the final list of hardware from the EE, begin planning how to program it, focus on creating a unified system.
ID:Aesthetics/Development Become acquainted with the project and the overall objectives, learn how to navigate through the edge website. Begin brainstorming designs for the board itself, as well as the custom enclosure and product features. Participate in benchmarking activity, develop three ideas AND three questions pertaining to the project and write down,ALSO research whether or not we want to buy a platform (tablet touchscreen pc) or build from scratch. Bring for discussion the following week. Develop enclosure proposals using 3-D drawing software, create a list of materials that can be used and their associated costs. Focus on customer needs: robust and lightweight Identify constraints for the engineers to work around, work with the ME's in finalizing the enclosure design. Send to John Bonzo or to manufacturer to verify it can be fabricated in the Brinkman lab (if necessary) and obtain quote.
