Staffing Requirements

The staffing requirements for the project are summarized in the table below.

Note to DPM Students: Imagine that you are writing a one paragraph advertisement to hire an engineer to work on each of these positions within the team. Each entry in the Role/Skills description column should be very similar to a one paragraph co-op posting announcement similar to those you have applied to previously.

Dr. Day ME Faculty Guide (Primary Customer). Will supervision of the project to ensure the goals and objectives are aligned with the customer's needs.
Dr. Weinstein ME Faculty Consultant. Will provide technical expertise and advice with coating designs. Dr. Weinstein has a PhD in Chemical Engineering and specialized in thin film coating at Eastman Kodak.
Dr. Smith Chemistry Faculty Consultant. Will provide technical expertise and advice with organic solvent. Dr. Smith specializes in polymer/organic chemistry and has background with ink jet printers.
Dr. Andy High Medical Doctor Dr. Andy High (Secondary Customer). Dr. High currently does research with MALDI on organic tissues. He will provide tissue samples, MALDI images and data.
Dr. Clive Slaughter Medical Doctor Dr. Clive Slaughter (Secondary Customer). Dr. Slaughter currently does research with MALDI on organic tissues. He will provide tissue samples, MALDI images and data.
Robert Alpern ME Project Manager: Responsible for coordinating all aspect of SDI and SDII. Will coordinate scheduling, team dynamics, research and development phases, design of experiments, and serve as a liaison between the senior design team and the customer(s). A strong understanding of the project scope and customer needs is critical. Research fluid mechanic properties related to ink jet printers, blade coating, and airbrush. Will help develop a diffusion slide and an integrated experimental apparatus to incorporate all three coating devices.
Rob Wilber ME Fluid Mechanic Engineer: Responsible for modifying the mechanical design of the ink jet printer. Develop a slide mounting, holding and registration of sample for ink jet printer. The ink jet printer design will attach to the experimental apparatus. Collaborating with the CE and EE students to integrate a GUI control system will be critical. A strong background in Statics/Mechanics/Dynamics is needed. A strong understanding of fluid mechanics/transport phenomena concepts and CAD is desired.
Igor Tentler ME Lead Engineer: Responsible for designing and fabricating an interchangeable experimental apparatus for all three coating devices. Will work with all members of the senior design team to develop an experimental apparatus. The apparatus needs to be enclosed in a environmental control chamber to regulate the temperature and humidity. A strong background in Statics/Mechanics/Dynamics is needed. A strong understanding of fluid mechanics/transport phenomena concepts and CAD is desired.
Mike Norton ME Design Engineer: Responsible for researching different commercial blade coating designs. The ME student will propose and design a blade coating device to meet the customer's needs and objectives. Will coordinate the fabrication of the blade coating device using RIT's CNC machines. The blade coating design will attach to the experimental apparatus. Collaborating with the CE and EE students to integrate a GUI control system will be critical. Will work with the other team members to develop a diffusion slide. A strong background in Statics/Mechanics/Dynamics is needed. A strong understanding of fluid mechanics/transport phenomena concepts and CAD is desired. Experience in LabView or Matlab is desired.
Nedim Hamzic EE System Engineer: Responsible for developing a control and interface for both the ink jet printer and blade coating device. Must research and understand the electrical circuitry of ink jet printers. Will develop custom circuitry for the ink jet printer controls and diffusion slide. Work closely with the CE, IS, and ME students in development of a GUI and controls system to control the high speed camera, ink jet and blade coating device. Strong background on custom circuitry developments and programming is needed. Experience with robotics and LabView or related programs is desired. Experience in LabView or Matlab is desired.
Max Bobrov CE Software Developer: The computer engineer will be responsible for control and interface with ink jet and blade coating device. Must research and understand the software/hardware components of the ink jet printer. Will be responsible for developing custom hardware and software to control the ink jet printer and blade coating device. Will work closely the EE, ME, and IS students in development of a GUI and controls system to control the high speed camera, ink jet and blade coating device. Experience in hardware and software development is needed. Strong background in different programming languages is desired. Experience in LabView or Matlab is desired.
Tom Stahlecker IE Engineering Operations: Responsible for packaging, user interface and system integration. Will help design and experimental apparatus that is user-friendly and efficient. The IE student will work closely with all team members to ensure the project objectives and goals satisfy the customer needs. Responsible for documenting/developing short-term and long-term project goals. Will develop a statistical analysis platform for the MS thesis project. A strong background in statistical analysis (Design of Experiments) is needed. A basic understanding of mechanical engineering concepts is desired.
Delegated between 4 Me's IS Applications Engineer: The imaging arts and science major will be responsible for developing and imaging an experimental slide. The experimental slide will have a known characteristic/pattern for all three coating devices. The imaging arts and science major will research the imaging properties of the organic solvent. Will develop a model to measure the applied organic solvent from all three devices. A strong background in printing instruments is needed. A background in material science and chemistry is desired, but not required.
