Intellectual Property Considerations
All work to be completed by students in this track is expected to be released to the public domain. Students, Faculty, Staff, and other participants in the project will be expected to release rights to their designs, documents, drawings, etc., to the public domain, so that others may freely build upon the results and findings without constraint.
Students, Faculty, and Staff associated with the project are encouraged to publish findings, data, and results openly. The current third stage project METEOR team continues on this trend, as all of their intellectual property is open source. The 2007 academic year METEOR teams, including stage two, will follow this guideline and publish all data through the EDGE website.
Currently, this is not a problem with the sponsors funding the development of the rocket project. However, in the future, there is the possibility that intellectual property will be protected. This scenario would present itself if another company helped fund the project and as a result wanted to own the intellectual property generated. This possibility has yet to present itself to next year's projects, but is still worth mentioning.
