Grade Level MSD I MSD II
D Minimum acceptable level of work/effort. Team does not know final goals to be accomplished and final concept of project. Has not done any risk analysis of the project. Final budget and sources for materials and funding are not defined or known. No specifications about project. Final schedule for MSD II is non-existant. Very few customer needs, if any, obtained and interpreted. Team did not challenge themselves at all. Have complete design drawings and purchased COTS in-hand by end of SD1. Build an exact replica of the underwater ROV that has been built last year in Senior Design.
C Satisfactory level of acceptable work/effort. Team does not make final goals to be accomplished and final concept of project unclear. Customer needs are not all defined or addressed. Needs that are defined are done poorly. Unclear risk analysis of project. Few solutions, if any, to risk analysis. Budget is unclear, may have one source for materials and funding, few specifications about project. MSD II schedule is existant but not reasonable. It contains many mistakes, missing tasks, had inefficient distribution of resources, and timeline is vague. Team very moderately challenged themselves. Fabricate the frame of existing design and have design drawings for either an open architecture thruster or light. Design and build a device that has many features in common with previous system but has an open architecture basic thruster or UM light.
B Very good level of acceptable work/effort. Team makes final goals to be accomplished and final concept of project mostly clear. Most customer needs defined and addressed. Risk analysis presented with many appropriate solutions. Good budget figure, most specifications stated, have one or two sources for materials and funding. MSD II schedule completed and contain some erros and missing tasks. Team challenged themselves on an exceptable level and were somewhat inovative. Fabricate the frame of the existing design and have the design drawings of both an open architecture thruster and light. Design and build a device that has many features in common with previous system but has an open architecture thruster and light.
A Outstanding level of acceptable work/effort. Team makes final goals to be accomplished and final concept of project clear. Most customer needs, if not all, defined and addressed. Risk analysis presented with appropriate solutions. Accurate budget, all specifications stated, have two or more sources for materials and funding. MSD II schedule completed and contain very few, if any, errors and missing tasks. Team has a clear view of current and future project status. Team challenged themselves on an exceptional level and were inovative with their ideas. Have a very good early mock-up or prototype of either an open architecture thuster or light NOT integrated into the frame. Demonstrate that one or both of the open architecture subsystems (thuster and/or light) have technical performance and thermal efficiency equal to or greater than the COTS components.
