Project Overview

The goals of MAV flight have changed significantly in the last few years. The initial focus was small endurance vehicles, smaller then 15cm(6in), capable of simple video target acquisition. It has recently transitioned to larger aerial vehicles, smaller then 80cm(31in), capable of autonomous flight for extended distances, GPS and video target acquisition and sensory retrieval data. For 2008-2009 the MAV development has been broken up into two separate senior design projects: one for the Airframe, Structures and Propulsion, and the second for the Control System. Together the two teams will develop a single vehicle capable of being used for future MAV development, with the end goal of entering the US/European MAV Flight Competition with a fully autonomous MAV. The focus of this project is to design and build a flight control system for the Micro Aerial Vehicle, that will lead to a fully autonomous system.
