Product Description/Project Objective Statement
The mission of the Process Improvement Innovations Project is to implement lean principles in a new designated inventory/storage area at Dresser-Rand Corporation's Wellsville facility in order to reduce cycle time and improve on time delivery.Key Business Goals/Project Deliverables
Goals:- Increase floor space utilization and storage capacity by 30%
- Optimize the material receiving process
- Optimize/Create a material tracking system for the inventory area
- Prove that ‘big things can flow’
- Successfully relocate from current inventory area to future inventory area
- Improve on Ergonomics and address different safety issues
- Decrease amount of damaged turbines to 0
Deliverables:
- The team will be required to submit a layout proposal
- Accurate justification data for that layout
- Operation procedures on how to maintain new culture
- Inventory storage racking proposals (implement if possible
- Some sort of tracking system (ex. Supermarket)

Dresser-Rand (Person of Contact: Holly Dunaway- Significant opportunity to save money by cutting inventory on site
- Significant opportunity in the process of storing inventory and material more efficiently (2 day lead time to gather parts for workers)
- Minimize travel cost/distance (200-300 feet/pick, over a mile a day of walking)
- Ergonomically how do they handle such massive parts? (only have 1 jib crane)
- Operation discipline is very weak
