Wegmans Food Market Inc. is a locally owned grocery store chain in Rochester NY. The company owns and operates 75 stores across New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. Wegmans was just named the fifth best company to work for in 2009 by Fortune Magazine. In previous years Wegmans has been listed as the number one best company to work for. The batch prep project will take place in the Central Kitchen at the Wegmans Culinary Center located on Chili ave in Rochester NY. The batch prep area is used to prepare ingredients for soups and sauces that will be used by the Wegmans stores. The primary goal of this project is to develop a standard work for the batch prep area that reduces labor hours needed by increasing the rate of expectancy (lbs/labor hour) through standard work procedures and an area layout redesign.
