We have obtained ProMetal 60 micron powder and have requested ProMetal binder.

Product Description/Project Objective Statement

Project Objective: To simulate the current ProMetal process for spreading fine metal powder and improve on the density variability. A proof of concept will hopefully lead to more funding and possibly donations from ProMetal.

Key Business Goals/Project Deliverables

Key deliverables include a functioning multi-axis system that is capable of spreading various powders and is robust enough for future MSD students to expand upon.

Primary Market/Project Opportunities

If the project is successful in distributing an even density, this process could revolutionize rapid prototyping and 3D printing. Molds are not necessary with this process because the part is printed and sintered rather than cast afterwards.

Secondary Market/Project Opportunities

Development of a testing procedure for density variability is a possible opportunity.

Assumptions and Constraints

The system should be capable of spreading/printing a 12"x18"x6" block of steel. The major constraint is a $1000 budget.
