This project, commissioned by ITT, is to design a prototype beam steering mechanism for use on airplanes, satellites, and in other aerospace applications. This device, for example, could be used in LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) systems. The main objective is to design a beam steering device that out performs current commercially available devices in one or more performance specs. The mirror is moved along two axes using electro-mechanical components and are to fit inside a 3in diameter, 3in long cylinder.
