For the original project description, click on the following link for the Project Readiness Package. The goal of our project is to design equipment which allows students to observe conductive heat transfer and calculate the thermal conductivity of materials. The end destination of the project is to integrate our apparatus into a chemical engineering heat transfer lab in future years. Several objectives must be met for the project to be accomplished. Most importantly, students must be able to observe conductive heat transfer and measure thermal conductivity. Students should be able to manually obtain readings while also acquiring results through software (Labview). These results will then be compared to published thermal conductivity values. If the objectives are carried out while considering ethical, economic, and logistical parameters, then the project will be a success. |
