P14361: Engineering Applications Lab Modules
/public/

Problem Definition

Table of Contents

Project Summary

Provide a set of advanced investigative scenarios that will be simulated by theoretical and/or computational methods, and then characterized experimentally. The modules are to be well-documented and well-controlled, but will still allow a range of variability to the basic conditions to add originality to each instance of use.

Customer Requirements (Needs)

Need# Needs Priority
CN1 Customer requests 3 modules at a minimum; 4 or 5 are preferred. 9
CN2 Modules may be of different technical challenge and complexity. 9
CN3 All modules must emphasize practical engineering experiences. 9
CN4 All modules are to be interesting to the students 9
CN5 All modules will bridge application areas, such as electromechanical or electrochemical. 9
CN6 All modules will use commercially-off-the-shelf equipment to enable maintenance and sustainability of module use over many semesters of student enjoyment. 9
CN7 At least one module will have analytical challenges that are at or beyond student learning core course work. 9
CN8 All modules are to be fully configured, utilized and returned by student engineers. 9
CN9 All modules are stand alone. They will contain everything they need without borrowing from other sources. 9
CN10 All modules have a high level of flexibility and expansion allowing for many engineering opportunities. 9
CN11 All modules must be robust and safe. 9
