Team Vision for System Level Demo with Customer

During this phase, the team wanted to integrate all subsystems in order to have part of the demo for the review. We did integrate a handful of subsystems and are able to show a partial demo for the review. In addition, the electrical components are completed, with minor adjustments, and are ready to collect data and characterize the behavior of biochar cement.

Test Results Summary

Electrical system did not successfully turn on humidifier, however humidity demo was performed for customer last review.

Live Demo November 10, 2016, showed thermal conductivity extracting capabilities of heater, sensors, and microcontroller.

In 10 minutes, with the ETC door open, the outside of the aluminum cylinder reached 40 degrees Celsius from 25 Celsius. Data from the microcontroller was then extracted and transferred into a text file on the computer, then copy and pasted into Excel.

Microcontroller displayed a K value of 0.228 and an R value of 0.108 for the demo of testing plastic zip ties. This is compared to a known Nylon thermal conductivity value of 0.25 W/mK (http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/thermal-conductivity-plastics-d_1786.html), resulting in an 8% error. As this was a demo and there are sources of error, this is expected.

A more in depth calibration will be performed on standard insulation material in the near future.
