Layered Manufacturing has become increasingly competitive as of late. While some companies have entered the marketplace during this decade, there remain huge and often unforeseen opportunities for new Layered Manufacturing technologies to contribute to current and future markets. A key component for Layered Manufacturing systems are the print heads which jet ink drops in a precise location using ink formulations capable of curing in a “reasonable” time before the next layer is jetted. Along with a costly and time consuming development effort, these print heads are extremely sensitive to the chemical make-up of the inks which they will properly jet. From a commodity standpoint, print head developers would like to sell as many print heads to 3rd party Layered Manufacturing system manufacturers as possible. In addition, ink developers would like to sell as much ink to the purchasers/users of these Layered Manufacturing systems. Below is a schematic of a proposed Simple Ink Jetting Station and some of the components. For an updated project description, click on the following link for the Project Readiness Package. |
