Team Norms: Peer Assessment Rubric

Every team member will conduct a peer assessment of their team-mates following the review stage. The rubric below indicates how each team member will assess their peers. These 'Norms' reflect how each team member expects their peers to meet the team 'Values'.

Respect The team member is rude to other members, constantly talking over other members during meetings. The member also shoots down ideas brought up by other members. The team member is uninterested in hearing what other members have to say. The team member displays respect for others, allowing everyone to have their turn to express themselves during meetings. The team member is always respectful and understanding of other's needs. They go out of their way to make all feel respected and comfortable.

Honesty Team member does not notify other teammates when they will not have time to complete a specific task they were assigned. Other team members must then make up the work last minute. Team member sometimes notifies the team they are unable to complete a task with less than 24 hours before it is due. Team member notifies all teammates if they are unable to complete a task at least 32-48 hours in advance, giving other teammates time to delegate the task to someone else or work on it together. This team member also does not take on too many tasks that they know they will not be able to complete. Team member notifies all teammates that they are unable to complete a task at least a couple days in advance. They try their best to then make up the work the following week when they are not as busy.

Fairness The team member regularly shows favoritism, often ignoring suggestions and ideas based on the identity of the proposer. In addition, the team member may consistently opt for less or easier assignments than other members of the team. The team member occasionally opts for less work due to workload from other courses that particular week. In addition, the team member consistently asks for help in carrying out their tasks, or delegates it completely to another member of the team. The team member regularly volunteers for work and consistently performs them as specified and on schedule. In addition, the team member asks for help only when it is reasonable to do so. The team member remained objective in their decision-making process, using facts and engineering knowledge to come to a decision. In addition, the team member was impartial to other members of the team and their ideas, refraining from showing favoritism.

Participation The team member ignored tasks that were required of him/her putting the team's objectives in jeoprady. The member did not contribute to any discussions, and was not productive. The team member attempted tasks but often did not complete them or did not put much time or effort into their tasks. The team member attempted all tasks required of him/her and completed most of them on time. The member made the team aware of any delays in tasks that needed to be completed. The member also participated in team discussions. The team member completed all required task on time and was very involved in team discussion.

Accountability The team member refuses to take responsibility for any of their mistakes, refuses to understand that their actions caused an outcome, and even makes attempts to shift responsibility to others. The team member moderately understands that their actions has caused an issue. The team member cooperates with the team in order to rectify the issue, but begrudgingly. The team member understands that a problem may have been caused due to their actions, and works with the team in order to fix the problem. The team member is willing to take the responsibility for the issue, without the need of an extensive argument. The team member is able to solve a problem that they have caused before it became an epidemic. The team member takes full responsibility and informs the team of what had happened.

Communication The team member has gone "off the grid" and has been absent in group messages and/or emails. The team member fails to communicate critical information to the group that puts the project in jeopardy. The team member communicates updates and any problems as necessary. The team member responds to messages when appropriate and lets the group know if he or she needs help or has questions. The team member has overlooked some references or consistently fails to cite sources, conduct individual tasks, and provide/maintain documentation. The team member may have made some inappropriate or offensive remarks that may impact team cohesion. The team member consistently performs the tasks assigned to him, asking for help when overwhelmed. The team member properly documents his sources, references, and designs, and interacts with other members of the team in a positive, constructive way.
