Final System Integration

Completed, Functional Prototype

frameless|Functional Prototype

Disclaimer

Using the previously documented drawings and raw materials called out in the Bill of Materials, the Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom Technologies Seat Lifter can be reconstructed, however, it is highly advised that this system is not built to its current form.

Seriously, Don't Do It

The system itself is currently suffering for severe stability issues. During full system level testing, it was revealed that the center of gravity is located more than a foot in front of the end of the feet meant to keep the entire system stable. The seat, if sat on in it's current configuration above, will completely tip over, possibly resulting in injury to the user.

Again Seriously, Don't Sit On It

Final Risks: Absence of the Pump

Pump Housing

Pump Housing

As stated during the last phase, one of the major risks/concerns was that some of the components would not be completed in time for Imagine RIT. As it turns out, that risk was 1000% valid. In order to have a semi-funcitoning demonstration piece for Imagine, the pump and pump housing needed to be removed from the equation to allow for more time to assemble the full system.

Final Deliverable

Due to the lack of the pump, the two bottle jacks are not tied together. This makes it essentially impossible for the user to raise or lower themselves while sitting on the toilet seat. However, as was previously mentioned, it is impossible to sit on the toilet anyways due to stability concerns. Therefore the slightly shift final outcome scope is a functional prototype "Proof of Concept" device that lifts and lowers a toilet seat capable of supporting a 500 [lb] user cantilevered over the toilet bowl. This now serves as a base, first iteration, for what is likely a generational project.

Imagine Exhibit

The entire team was able to showcase the toilet system at the 2017 Imagine RIT Festival held on May 6th, 2017.This rain or shine event draws tens of thousands of people from the surrounding Rochester area every year and has been voted the favorite family friendly festival in the area. https://www.rit.edu/imagine/

Imagine RIT Photos

It may have been one of the wettest Imagine Festivals on record, but that sure didn't damping the spirit of the Rochester Community! There was a steady stream of interest in the exhibit all day long.
