Team Vision for Build & Test Prep Phase

During this two week phase, our team was focused on becoming reacquainted with the project and our progress from MSDI. We went about ensuring that all critical components from our bill of materials have been purchased, and came to the decision that we should also purchase a bike as a test bench for the project, ensuring that the same Fox fork and shock were used as in the original project specifications.

During this phase we also had a focus on creating a concrete plan for our progress through the build phases. The highest priority items of the project such as the Lidar testing, servo mounts, and accelerometer testing are prioritized in the early weeks of the second phase. A full plan of the build and test progress is presented below, prioritizing having the key software and hardware modules working on the bench before a full integration of the subsystems on the bicycle is completed.

Test Plan Summary

First, we want to verify that each component will work as intended. Once this is verified we will build the subsystems and test. Next, we will integrate the subsystems and test the integrated system off of the bike frame to confirm its functionality. Finally, the entire system will be installed on the bike frame and it will go through full functional tests Our general approach to our testing is shown in the flow chart below.

The problem our team has been tracking was related to scheduling. We worked as a team to find times to meet up as a group outside of our scheduled class time. We then documented the process on the Problem Tracking Chart, which is displayed below.

MSD2 Preliminary Schedule

Above is the Gantt Chart that the team came up with for the next 14 weeks. The sub systems are broken down into three sections. The mechanical part of the projects will focus on making durable mounts for all of our electrical parts. The computer part of the project will focus on integrating sensors into the system and debugging the code once the system is intact. The electrical part of the project will focus on getting the wiring harness and protection circuits up and running. The Gantt Chart shows the divided goals of the three aspects to the project but there will be much collaboration when it comes to testing the system.
