- See test plan for tensioning system
Fulfillment of requirement:
- Spool mount can hold maximum load
Going forward:
- Finalize prints for mounting components
Function: Tension Fiber, Maintain Tension
Inputs to design:
Design Path:
Design:
Test Plans:
Fulfillment of requirement:
- Tensioning system added to prevent tow from slipping
- Adjustable tension for different fiber orientations
- Tension can be adjusted, no live measure/display
Going forward:
- Test tension output force to validate that engineering requirement is met
- Finalize design of spring pulley
Function: Hold resin, Prevent Gelling, Apply Resin, Remove excess
Inputs to design:
Design Path
Notes from SME- Dr. Ghoneim: Factors affecting Vf:- Resin viscosity-material dependent, time dependent, volume dependent
- Wettability of fiber-material depedent
- Time in bath-fiber speed, length of bath
Agreed that the best way to approach resin bath is testing for Vf. Also agreed that constant tow speed is crucial.
Design:
Test Plans:
- Test for volume fraction of matrix (resin) in tube
- Know amount of fiber, can back calculate volume fraction of fiber and then resin
Fulfillment of requirement:
- System has resin bath
- Machine is easy to clean and remove resin
Going forward:
- Test for hardening time and correct resin volume
- Design brushes for resin application control
Function: Guide fiber, Prevent twisting
Inputs to design:
Design Path:
Design:
Test Plans:
- Running spindle with tow routed to assess travel though tow path
- Adjust roller arrangement as necessary to dial in tow travel
Fulfillment of requirement:
- Adaptable tow path to minimize instability and twisting through testing
Going forward:
- Finalize design of sprung tensioner to minimize risk of twisting/instability through slack
- Assemble and test tow path
