Project Summary

Project Statement

The purpose of this project is to design and develop a mechanical mechanism that will convert used plastic bottles into a usable polymer rope product. The machine is to be deployed to developing countries, such as Haiti, where it will empower recycling efforts and generate income for the poorest citizens. Due to intense environmental operating conditions and budget constraints, the machine will be as robust as possible while utilizing cheap common components for ease of manufacture and repair.

The project targets are to integrate the design of a current plastic string creation device into a rope generation machine. Emphasis will be placed on ease of use, operational robustness and product quality. The cumulative result is to be a functional prototype including the plans to be scaled for manufacture and implementation in the field. The design and prototype will be marketed to NGOs who emphasize in recycling empowerment and trash distribution solutions for developing nations.

Scenario 1: Village purchases machine for community recycling hub. Citizens can take in bottles and receive the rope product in return.

To raise the standard of living of the citizens and clean up the community.

Scenario 2: Individual or company purchases machine to generate revenue and sell a quality product on the market.

To generate a profit and a usable product.

Scenario 3: Environmental NGO distributes the machine amongst communities in developing nations to fulfill their mission statements.
