Team Vision for Subsystem Level Build & Test PhaseIn continuation of the testing phase, group P17483 has produced results for Tray Pack testing and initial results for Collector testing. The results were conducted under conditions available in Rochester during the month of February and were interpolated and compared to results in a Matlab and LabView Model. Communication with our customer has indicated that we should be prepared for interface challenges, pressure drops, and decreased airflow. These suggestions will be taken into account as we approach the next subsystem integration phase.
The project goals for this phase is to accomplish subsystem assembly and testing of tray packs and the collector.
Collective Test Plan Document and Complete Schedule
TestingTray Pack Subsystem Testing: P17483 has designed a temporary enclosure for one third of the tray packs out of cardboard. The intention of this test is to imitate the chamber and the warm air flow through the chimney of the actual system. This test was conducted using an air compressor and heater in the Dr. Steven’s laboratory. The following information highlights the construction, assembly, test preparation, and results of the tray pack testing.
Partial Collector Subsystem Testing P17483 has constructed half of the collector setup out of the actual wood materials that will be used in the final subsystem. The collector has 1 tarp attached to the front with quarter inch holes spaced 1 inch apart. The back side of the collector has corrugated sheet metal attached, and other materials or layering may eventually be considered if airflow increases. On February 20, 2017 the sun was brightly shining and conditions were favorable for full collector testing. The following shows the setup and collection.
