Team Vision for System-Level Design Phase

During this phase the team first brainstormed ideas for various aspects and functions of the simple 3D printing rig. These were added to a morphological chart (shown below). These ideas were then rated according to several selection criteria and the best concepts were selected. Using these filtered concepts a general idea for the systems level design was generated.

The chart below outlines the functional decomposition of the problem solved by this system and design. It also outlines specifically how each function of the design contributes to solving the problem.

Benchmarking

Improvements to the existing system are going to be made using available materials, therefore benchmarking consists of evaluating the different parts available to the team.

Below is a Morphological Chart outlining the different concepts developed by the team to perform each function in the functional decomposition. Most concepts in this chart are addressed below in the concept selection stage.
