Project Summary Project Information

Company X manufactures prototype optics that come in various shapes and sizes. Some of these parts are up to 14 inches in diameter, thicknesses up to 2 inches, and over 20 pounds. Testing and handling these larger sized parts is difficult due to the enormous size. The current fixtures used at Company X are not satisfactory for lenses of this size. The original goal of this project was to develop a new fixture that is capable of holding these large pieces without inducing or relieving stress in order to eliminate error during testing.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the team had to alter the goal after the Systems Design Review. Company X instead needed a new prototype which focused on holding large, high aspect ratio parts, that are more lightweight and thin than previously expected.
