Team Vision for Problem Definition Phase

Throughout the Problem Definition Phase, Team BASE has worked to successfully identify:

Project Summary

Wearable technology, defined as smart devices worn on the body, has become increasingly popular since 2012 with market values expected to reach upwards of $34 billion USD by the year 2020. Currently, most wearables have maintained similar form factors, including wrist wear, eyewear and bodywear. As such, Bose Corporation has identified an opportunity to develop a unique wearable experience in a form factor that has not yet become widely popularized - headphones.

The goals of this project are to integrate both environmental and biometric sensors into a pair of Bose headphones without compromising audio quality. By combining these sensors into a single product, a user would be able to determine the effects of their external environment on their internal physiology, thus creating a unique customer experience not yet offered by other wearable tech companies. The resulting design and prototype will need to abide by UL standards as well as remain in compliance with the FDA’s “General Wellness: Policy for Low Risk Devices.”
