The Overcomer is a form of assistive technology designed to enable users with disabilities to participate in physical and social activities. Typically, those with a disability are less likely to be physically active than those without a disability. Even simple games, such as playing catch, are difficult to execute without an upper extremity assistive device. The Overcomer will attempt to assist the user with movements like catching, striking, and launching. Currently, there are two initial prototypes from previous senior design teams that did not satisfactorily meet all of the customer requirements. Other than that, no directly comparable products exist in the marketplace.

The goals of this project are to analyze the existing prototypes, and design a simplified prototype that is durable, lightweight, manufacturable, and marketable. It should also be economically friendly ($500-$1,200), and user-friendly for a variety of different mobility aids. The Overcomer must not infringe on any existing patents, and it must meet all standards and regulations for attachment to Class I medical devices.
