Systems Design

Table of Contents

During the systems design phase, we planned to continue to research and plan the necessary steps in order to come up with a working design concept. Researching all aspects of the design, and employing various tools to compare designs, we were able to come up with a design concept which fits ours and our customer’s needs. Those tools included the morphological table, the pugh chart, feasibility questions, functional decomposition and more. Employing those tools allowed us to come up with multiple design concepts including the most effective one and the cheapest one. After working out the design concepts, the team thought it would be valuable to plan out the upcoming weeks to eventually work ahead as much as possible. This will help us to handle the workload for the upcoming Preliminary Detailed Design phase.

Preliminary Test Plans

Step 1: Design & Start Benchtop Experiments

Goal: Discover the combination of factors that optimizes plant growth while still maintaining system efficiency

Step 2: Analysis Procedure for a 2k Design

  1. Estimate factor effects
  2. Form initial model
  3. Design will be replicated-> fit full model
  4. Perform statistical testing
  5. Refine model- non significant factors = error
  6. Analyze residuals
  7. Interpret the results

Step 3: System Testing

Goal: Design an low cost, resource efficient modified Surculus that allows for continuous plant growth
