Project Summary

Centrifugal compressors are a type of turbomachinery that intake a gas, air in our case, and sends it through an impeller where mechanical energy from the impeller is transferred to the air in the form of kinetic energy. The air then goes through a diffuser where the air experiences a pressure rise. In our project, we are tasked with selecting a compressor that will be required to be assembled and disassembled with easily replaceable parts. The current state of design is to utilize centrifugal technology that can meet the customer’s requested parameters (flow rate, pressure ratio, speed, etc.) while also fitting within the constraints of the lab. The goals of the project are to purchase a centrifugal compressor/blower on an industrial scale that is small enough to fit within the lab and utilize the power available. The compressor/blower must also not have a flow rate that exceeds the make-up air available as well. Testing & conditioning of the compressor/blower is the utmost priority of the project.
