Test Results Summary

For this phase the team focused mainly on construction of the device in preparation for full assembly. However, the team did collect data on the unaltered walker in three different terrain types.

Based on the data collected, the team decided that if we saw average acceleration over .7 on any axis once the system had achieved stability the attachment would be deemed unstable. An exception to this is the elevator trial, which has a limit of .1. These values were cones based on analysis of the control results.

Accelerator Testing:

  1. Attach accelerometer half way between left and right handles on the walker seat (above center of gravity)
  2. Start recording
  3. Walk control walker 10 meters
  4. Stop recording
  5. Repeat 3 times

Attachment

  1. Attach accelerometer midway between handles on Plexiglas crossbeam
  2. Start recording
  3. Walk attached walker 10 feet
  4. Stop recording and send data
  5. Repeat 5 times

Tip Testing:

  1. Attach accelerometer midway between handles on Plexiglas crossbeam
  2. Begin recording
  3. Tip to failure on x, y, and z axis
  4. Stop recording and send results
  5. Find angle of failure
  6. Repeat 3 times

Braking Test

  1. Ruler will be set up parallel to device path of travel
  2. Device will be pushed forward, then breaks will be applied
  3. Breaking will be recorded, data points will be gathered for stop time and stop distance

Plans for next phase

We hope to have out testable prototype assembled, and begin human and mechanical testing on the device. We hope to have this completed with enough time left to make any necessary edits on the overall final product.
