Team Vision for Preliminary Detailed Design Phase

During this stage we set out to detail how we plan on testing fabrics and fasteners to ensure the safety and usability of the garment. We also plan on ordering materials and scheduling the use of test equipment to ensure the materials meet feasibility requirements. By the end of this phase we hope to have completed test plans, purchased materials and have Joey (the preemie sized baby doll) hooked up properly.

Feasibility: Prototyping, Analysis, Simulation

The team approached feasibility in three respects:

1. Subject Matter Experts (SME's)

Melissa Dawson, RIT Industrial Design Professor:

The team reached out to Melissa Dawson, an Industrial Design Professor at RIT. Melissa previously mentored an Industrial Design Senior Project concerning baby-wearing garments tailored to skin-to-skin.

The team was interested to know how a garment such as this might be approached from an industrial design perspective and how we may consider human centered design in our product.

Additionally, the team spoke to Melissa about the possibility of having an industrial design student join the project in the Spring for MSD II to assist with textile design

The team will continue to consult Subject Matter Experts as the needs of the project requires it

2. Initial Material Selections

The team selected a variety of materials which may be suitable for the garment. Each of the materials will be evaluated for feasibility as shown below.
