Subsystem Build & Test

Team Vision for Subsystem Level Build & Test PhaseThis phase was geared towards selecting materials to prototype the garment with as well as creating the initial pattern to follow for the prototype. We believe that this will allow us to iterate faster and be consistent between iterations in the garments. If time permitted we planned on sewing a prototype from the pattern to demonstrate the garment. For this phase we were able to complete an initial pattern for the small\medium size and order fabric for 2 prototypes.
Materials Decision and Purchasing
In this phase, the team determined both the parent and baby materials. A color palette was also solidified based on the feedback from the most recent NICU visit.
The parent fabrics are light weight and we selected a neutral charcoal and grey. Despite the fabrics being lightweight, the garment will consist of at least two layers and should mitigate any transparency in the fabric. The darker color is for the small/medium size and the light grey fabric is for the medium/large size garment. The lighter grey fabric is slightly stretchier than the the dark fabric and will stretch more for a larger body. The slight color variation is in place to distinguish garment sizes.
The baby fabric is a medium weight fabric with a nature pattern. This compliments the lightweight fabric of the parent portion and will help to keep the baby warm without additional blankets.
Making the Pattern
In this phase, we have begun to make a pattern specific to our garment. This pattern will create a more streamlined and repeatable approach to producing future prototypes.
