Problem Statement:

Our project is aimed to refine current cell culturing practices being used for 3T3 fibroblast preparation for Rochester Institute of Technology Biomedical Engineering Department’s labs. Current practices have not been optimized for the investment of time and materials required and allow for human error in the decision making process for passaging and seeding ratio of cells to media. A user interface will be constructed through capturing growth curve values for various seeding ratios of cells and media.This user interface will assist the lab instructor by determining the proper seeding quantities and estimated time to passage based on user input. Image analysis tools will be used to determine precisely when cells should be passaged based on confluency. By refining and standardizing the process to maintain and grow 3T3 fibroblasts, consistency in results will be increased while time, and material consumption will be reduced.
