Project Goals and Key Deliverables

At the end of this project we expect to have a cubesat with a larger sail, control system, and a power system. Our power system and control system will be modular to allow future teams to add onto our accomplishments.

After our customer interviews we complied a list of the customer requirements as seen in the figure below. Additional customer requirements have been added and updated as the semester has progressed. The importance is measure from 1-3 with 1 being most important and 3 being would be nice to add but not important. A link to the live document here

Engineering Requirements (Metrics & Specifications)

After compiling our list of customer requirements we created a list of engineering requirements. Not all the values have been determined yet so the list will be updated as the semester progresses.

After looking through the customer requirements, we compiled this list of engineering requirements based on CubeSat regulations, FAA & FCC regulations, and general design constraints. Below is the comparison between the customer requirements and the engineering requirements.

Constraints

One major constraint is that the cubesat must be space worthy. This means the cubesat must be able to withstand extreme temperatures, a vacuum, and high radiation. We are also constrained by the cubesat regulations such as size, weight, and center of mass location. Another big constraint is our budget.

House of Quality

Using the customer requirements and engineering requirements a house of quality chart was created. It compares the customer requirement against the engineering requirements and weights how important they are to the customers and to us. The weight goes from 9-1 with 9 being very important and 1 being least important.

Plans for next phase

For next phase, in 3 weeks, we plan to start designing the systems and researching concepts we are unsure of. We will look into multiple design options and narrow it done due to feasibility. Each team member has tasks general tasks assigned to them that are listed below.
