Team Vision for Preliminary Detailed Design Phase
Accomplishments:
- Selected SBC
- Selected two candidates for testing: (see below)
- Ordered prototyping/testing materials
- Developed Test Plans
- Coordinated with client; determined that a battery will not be included in the design.
- Coordinated with client; determined that a portable or integrated projector would prove useful. Future testing will determine feasibility of integrated projector.
- Created preliminary BOM and budget for project
- Developed software flowcharts to help visualize how applications on SBC and smartphone will function
- Came up with plan to mitigate risk of calling 911 with Android smartphone. Wanted to test plan with prototype phone but did not have time; this will happen during next phase.
Unaccomplished goals:
- Begin feasibility experimentation with prototyping materials
- Test feasibility of mini projector that could be built-in to the design
Updates to the System-Level Design since last Design
Review:
- No Battery
- Portable projector is a definite. Integrated is another possibility.
- New vision for enclosure... Internal components would be mounted on boards made from a non-conductive material (acrylic sheet or similar), which stack inside the enclosure to save space.
- Power control/distribution system, instead of individually powered components

Prototyping, Engineering Analysis, Simulation
Ordered various materials to begin prototyping and experimentation with. Materials did not arrive in time to begin experimentation with, so a large portion of the time between this design review and the next will be spent testing feasibility using the purchased components.

- iPod Touch
- Wired flip phone
- Phone Line Simulator

Plans for next phase
Dania:
- Learn how to use AutoCad Electrical
- Draw power supply diagrams (terminal blocks, xfmr, ac/dc converter, etc.)
- Revise power supply strategy as needed
- Update BOM and Budget
Elijah:
- Teach Dania how to use AutoCad Electrical
- Work with Alex and Jung to test strategy for disabling Android cell communication on prototype phone
- Revise software flowcharts for SBC and Phone apps
- Create storyboarding images (sample screenshots of digital interfaces on devices)
- Revise test plans
Zhengguo:
- Work with Alex and Elijah to test strategy for disabling Android cell communication on prototype phone
- Create full design and parts list for Interface Module
Grace:
- Research & recommend option to team: enclosure made in-house vs purchased and built-out.
- Design internal mounting system for components; draw fully dimensioned diagrams with components included
- Work with Dania to begin 3d-printing test models, brackets, etc. for internal mounting system
Alex:
- Finalize use cases & draw them in Visio
- Test mini projector that could be physically integrated for feasibility
- Work with Alex and Jung to test strategy for disabling Android cell communication on prototype phone
- Determine how data can best be passed between SBC and Phone via Bluetooth
