Team Vision for Detailed Design Phase
During this phase, we planned to get the radar working and talking to the pi, as well as testing how far the radio transmitter/receiver circuit can reach with an antenna, and how sensitive the radar is to objects of different sizes. We also planned on creating housing for the radar, base station, and in-car device, as well as testing the housings in different weather conditions. We did not get to creating housings yet, as we decided this should be a last step so we know exactly how big the housings should be for each unit. We were, however, able to get the radar working and talking to the pi, as well as complete the testing we wanted to complete.
In the next phase, we plan on integrating the speaker into the in-car device, as well as finalizing the software that will link the radar detection to the radio signal transmission. After this, we will be able to create the housings and do extensive testing, adjusting as needed to test results.
Test Plans
Test Results
Radar Test Results
- Detected Human within 25ft
- Radar requires object to be moving towards or away from it, can’t detect side to side motion
Radio Comms Testing
With no antennae:- Signal reaches a few inches from transmitter
With 14” antenna on transmitter:
- Signal reaches 150+ ft
- Through glass window
- Through wooden door
- Through concrete pole
- Through humans
Analysis
- Updated Base station to Sensor Calculations to minimize unsynchronized signals risk:
- Measurement distances from Google Earth:
- Calculation Results:
- Updated System Diagram with tested and more accurate calculated ranges:
