Team Vision for Integrated System Build & Test Phase
This phase the team planned to start, and ideally complete building each subsystem. We also planned to update the test plans as needed, order black soldier flies, and get started on the end deliverables for MSD2.Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of COVID19, we were unable to start any building. We did minor adjustments to the test plan, and started working on the technical paper.
Ultimately the goal of this phase turned into adjusting the deliverables to the current situation. We presented these new deliverables to the customer and came to an agreement on what can/should be delivered at the end of MSD2.
Design Recap
No major changes were done to the composter design. It is unlikely any changes will occur in the future either since we are unable to manufacture.
Raw Material Update
- All significant components for the composter have been purchased
- The only remaining raw materials are relatively unimportant pieces/components that would not be required until manufacturing was almost complete
- All of the purchased raw materials can we found in the Institute Hall BSF Laboratory
Manufacturing and Assembly Plans
Frame Subsystem
- All frame components arrived and have been assembled in the lab space in Institute Hall
- No alterations have been made to the frame since the previous review
- Can these parts be used by a future MSD Team?: Yes
- Were these parts altered?: No
Hopper Subsystem
- Both the 1/8’’ thickness sheet and the 3/16’’ thickness sheet have arrived and are in the lab in Institute Hall
- .dxf / .pdf files created for machining on the Construct’s CNC Router Table
- Can these parts be used by a future MSD Team?: Yes
- Were these parts altered?: No
Frass Removal Subsystem
- In possession of all components
- Machining plans for the Construct’s 6-axis CNC mill were discussed with shop employee over Spring Break, never created
- Can these parts be used by a future MSD Team?: Yes
- Were these parts altered?: No
Larvae Removal Subsystem
- In possession of T-Brackets for Larvae path
- L-Bracket and Bucket added to model before previous review but never purchased
- Can these parts be used by a future MSD Team?: Yes
- Were these parts altered?: No
Test Plans
- Additional columns/information has been added to the test plan master spreadsheet
- Individual test plans will be concluded using the previous BSF Team's test plan excel sheet as the foundation
- Test plans are close to completion
Poster, Technical Paper, Video, Recommendations Update
- Poster: Not started, but have a general knowledge of what will be included
- Technical Paper: Started
- Video: Not started
- Recommendations for Composter: Started
- Additional Task - Recommendations for Future MSD Teams: Not started
Risk and Problem Tracking
New risks are added when identified. Each risk's importance is rescored at the end of each phase when circumstances change their likelihood or severity.Surprisingly, no one on the team had the foresight to anticipate and plan for the risk of a global pandemic.
The following risks were identified in the Integrated Subsystem Build & Test Prep phase as the primary risks going forward:
- Lack of computer access
- Team member(s) having trouble with the new online class format, impacting MSD and other classes
- Team member, guide, customer, family, or friend contract COVID19
- Difficulty finalizing deliverables due to not having tangible composter for reference
- Team member Room and Board issues due to part time job losses
Changes
- All manufacturing risks are gone because we are no longer manufacturing
- All shipping risks are gone because we are no longer purchasing raw materials
- No more subsystem integration risks because we are no longer assembling a composter
An updated Risk Table with all identified risks can be found using the following link: Updated Risk Table.
Problem Tracking
Updated Problem Tracking Worksheet:- COVID19 required a complete overhaul of our project. We needed to adjust and adapt to still deliver a satisfactory project
Meeting Minutes and Notes
Meeting 4/02/2020 @ 9:00 am (end 9:45) via Skype
- Design Recap: The design will not be modified
- Materials: Located in a shipping box on the table located in the lab
- Frame: Completed and located in the lab
- Hopper: Materials are located in the lab. The program for CNC software in construction started. The material was not cut
- Frass removal: None of the parts were cut/machined
- Larva removal system: Not completed
- Assembly plans: Plans were started. Along with written plans dimensions need to be added onto a drawing and each part number accordingly.
- Test Plans: Add expected results to current test plans.
- I.e. measurement dimensions are certain. Amount of food larva consume is not certain
- Revised Schedule: Goal is to complete by the date RIT would have been
- The project could be handed off to ESW unless there is a new design opportunity, then it can go through another iteration of MSD
- New PRP could include BSF breeding area ontop
- Send the customer drafts for review
Meeting 3/26/2020 @ 10:00 am (end 10:20) via Skype
- For next meeting send out agenda to Mark the day before
- Video expectations: 2 minutes highlighting the project
Meeting 3/24/2020 @ 9:30 (end 10:15)
- Zoom: Another MSD guide scheduled the meeting by accident. He did not know how to use Zoom and asked us how to cancel and log off meetings. After the team logged off and joined in skype.
- Skype: Addressed the three main tasks that need to be completed in regards to the scheduling. Discussed the current status of tasks and delegate the new tasks. Adjusted the tasks for the hand-off process.
- Test plans: Create forms for the test results that can be handed off more efficiently. The objective is to clearly show how the testing would have occurred. The forms would be combined with sample protocols to increases the clarity of the process.
- Design/Manufacturing plans: The design plans will not be updated, but a detailed list describing the manufacturing plans will be created.
- Paper/poster/video: Going to ask Mark for more details about the video. At this time we plan on creating a PowerPoint. We will all work together to finish the technical review paper
Schedule for the Final Phase of MSD2
- The schedule provided below should be the final project schedule
- All manufacturing, assembling, and testing have been removed for the schedule
- New deliverables have been added/adjusted
- Project end date remains unchanged
