WexEnergy LLC manufactures a product known as WindowSkin™ that takes a single pane window to double pane energy efficiency, and a double pane window to triple pane window efficiency. The WindowSkin is easy to install, nearly invisible, featherweight and very affordable. Each WindowSkin is customized to fit its own window. Unique packaging is required to accommodate the variable width and height of the product while protecting the corners and keeping the WindowSkins from sagging during shipment. The “out-of-box” experience needs to reflect the cost of the WindowSkins, roughly $50 - $125 depending upon size.

Because each WindowSkin is customizable to fit a variety of window sizes, each order of window skins is unique in terms of dimensions and quantities.The WindowSkin is also very sensitive near the corners and can become damaged if not packaged properly. In the past, custom corrugated corners have been used to protect the skin, with corrugated cartons being used for larger orders. Approximately 10 WindowSkins were packaged per box, with varying lengths and widths between 6" and 58".

The goals of this project are to design a packaging solution to package various order sizes and prevent damage to corners, as well as sagging to the center of the WindowSkin. The packaging should also be easy to handle with minimal waste/resources usage, and be cost efficient.
